Our Story

At Alpaca by Design, everything begins with a deep appreciation for alpacas, natural fibers, and the landscapes of Central Oregon.

Located in Sisters, Oregon and connected to Flying Dutchman Alpacas in nearby Tumalo, Alpaca by Design brings together premium alpaca fiber products, artisan craftsmanship, and authentic ranch roots. What started as a shared passion for alpacas and sustainable natural fibers has grown into a destination for visitors, knitters, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone seeking warmth, comfort, and meaningful products with a real story behind them.

Our mission is simple: connect people to the incredible softness, warmth, and beauty of alpaca fiber while supporting the people, animals, and traditions behind it.

From cozy alpaca socks and locally raised yarn to handmade gifts and artisan goods, every product reflects our connection to the land, the alpacas, and the growing fiber arts community here in Central Oregon.

Our Alpacas

Our alpacas are raised at Flying Dutchman Alpacas in Tumalo, Oregon, where decades of experience in alpaca breeding, fleece evaluation, and fiber education come together. The ranch is internationally recognized within the alpaca industry and plays an active role in advancing fiber quality, education, and sustainable alpaca farming practices.

By connecting our store directly to the ranch, we help bridge the gap between the products people purchase and the animals and fibers those products come from.

Visitors to Central Oregon can experience this connection firsthand through our store, ranch experiences, alpaca encounters, and locally inspired products that celebrate the region’s agricultural and outdoor lifestyle.
